Be sure you also try out the other low end DSLRs Canon EOS 400D, Sony A200 or A300, and other brands before you jump at this camera. Go to a local camera store and actually hold the cameras and see what the menu interface is like on them. Each has advantages and disadvantages which are mostly based on personal preference.
Also, if you are a first time DSLR buyer, do you *really* need a DSLR? Perhaps a very good point and shoot is easier to use and provides excellent results for most people. If you are not a technical person or patient learner, why spend the extra cash on features you will never use?
