Pentax is not the same level as Nikon or Canon in DSLR yet.
Have you seen any professional photographers holding a pentax around?

Reviews say Pentax k-x has image quality comparable to Nikons and Canons in a higher price range. The k-x is said to have a better sensor than any Canon & Nikon short of the Nikon D90 and Canon T2i, including the D3000 and the D5000. The reason pro photographers don't use Pentax is because Pentax has fewer offerings for their professional needs, including high end lenses with the latest IS and autofocusing technology and other various accessories. If you do not have the specialized needs of a professional photographer, the Pentax k-x is the best offering at this price range.

@#5 actually, a lot of the higher end lenses don't have VR/IS built into the lens because Pentax and Sony build the VR/IS into the BODY and not the lens like Canon/Nikon do. This is great on one hand because any lens you use can technically become a VR/IS lens since the body is the one doing the vibration reduction; however, the trade off is that it makes for slower cameras (f/1.8 or lower become exceptionally expensive). That's why Canon/Nikon opt to keep the VR on the lens as opposed to the body.

As for this deal, I bought this same refurb deal from adorama 2 weeks ago. I received a unit where the flash wouldn't stay closed. However, Adorama seems to have good CSR and exchanged my d5000 for a different one without any problems at all. It's a great camera and takes really wonderful pictures.

Pentax & Sony are like dirty whores in the hood, Nikon & Canon are the street whores. Any system you buy, you are pretty much screwed.

Nikon sucks carrots just like Asston kutcher, go Canon.

Probably one of the best deals going. I got mine last time they had it for this price. I'm glad it came back, my friends are waiting to buy these, too.

No, it's not the best in class. For that you want the Canon EOS T1i or T2i. But you will not come near this price with either of them, even refurbs. But the difference is probably not going to matter unless you are already invested heavily in Canon systems / lenses.

Results are excellent, very snappy to use, kit lens is amazingly sharp, the tilt LCD is much more useful than what reviews said. I paired it w/ a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G AF-S lens for some very neat results.

Got this for $515 at B&H.

      #5, the D5000 has the D90 sensor, I believe.
