i bought the refurb D60 from adorama (body only) for $299. At least in adoramas case it was refurbed by nikon. I couldn't tell it was a refurb when i received it. Battery, accessories, etc are all brand new. Take note that this was from adorama. I don't know about JR.
I got the refurb from Adorama as well. Couldn't tell if it was ever touched. Even accessories were all packed like new. Still runs good after few months.
Bought the D60 kit New at CCity closeout. I am so..so...very impressed with the camera, build quality and size (not so big and clunky). I had a Canon digital Rebel that would take half the picutres out of focus and had a terrible kit lens. The D60 takes sharp pictures, in focus, with excellent colors, in camera editing including D-lighting, cropping, red eye fixing, as well as a very good in camera flash. The stock VR lens is sharp, I also bought the 55-200 VR lens from B&H refurbished. Nodda one issue. I came from Canon and am now hooked on Nikon. Excellent product. Just be sure the refurbishing is done by Nikon and you will be fine with a 90 day warranty as was my Nikon lens. FYI, you will have a NIKON extended warranty card in the refurb box. I think it was 3years bumper to bumper for 89.00. Nikon will also present you with the warranty offer when you register the camera online at Nikon.
Good deal, for the refurbi stuff, $400 is a great price.I bought a D40 during CC bankrupt sale for a grand total of $375 and I'm happy with it but for $400 I may buy this one instead, despite some pp would choose the D40 over the D60, except for the VR lens, in this case it'll be a VR lens.
Just an update for anyone who might be considering this D60 (still available as of March 7th)
I ordered this from J&R on the 4th and got it two days later. The camera and lens look 100% brand new, with no scratches anywhere - not on the body, the LCD screen, even the bottom of the camera. According to the EXIF data from my first picture, the D60 only had 17 actuations on it - meaning that it was either hardly touched before going through the refurb process, or Nikon had replaced the shutter and done 17 test shots before declaring it ok. Either way, it was like getting a brand new camera. And yes, the lens is VR.
I think the 90-day Nikon warranty will be sufficient, but if you want a 1-year seller warranty on top of that, check the Used&New section of Amazon for the D60 and get it from Cameta.
I hear it's a good starter DSLR, but refurb? Is this place going to try to bait-and-switch you shortly after you order like other camera stores?

Spend the extra $200 and get the d200 from the deal earlier today.
The D200 is a better deal, but no lens with it. The D200 is also discontinued. It was replaced by the D300.

J&R is reputable seller. Refurb is fine on these, you can't tell from new. Only down side may be shorter warranty - but not always, you have to check.
HO-LY baconnaise!
Are we sure the lens is the VR version? The actual site never says it is VR.
I would not buy a refurb of this price. It may be a good deal, but I have been burned by refurbs before.
Do not walk. Run and buy this camera.
If it is the VR version this is a great deal. Nikon did not reveal any replacement at PMA so this model will still hold its value for a bit longer.
I went ahead and pulled the trigger to get this one. Couldn't pass up the price.
check the review first before you pull the trigger on this one

I just checked the J&R website and didn't see this deal anymore.
