I don't do refurbs, and this certainly doesn't seem to be that great of a discount considering new units are routinely selling for under $200 (click on the price History). The "before rebate" price is unimpressive (not that I mind rebates, but many here seem to be "rebate challenged"). Unless you just gotta have one now for the holidays, and can't find one anywhere else, I'd wait 'til after the holidays for a decent deal on a new one.

Lot of complaints on Newegg wishing they had bought a new one instead. And missing parts.

I also find it stupid that this is a refurb, and has a stupid rebate with it. It should be discounted in the first place.

Its also a typical Newegg rebate, that gives a stupid 15 days to mail it in, instead of the standard 30 days every other rebate has. Its Newegg doing that.

Read the reviews on Newegg. A lot of buyers got their refurbs with missing parts.

Refurb @ Newegg = Returned item.

Don't expect that this unit was cleaned up confirmed that it is 100% functional.

Maybe I'm just one of a lucky few but I've never had any issues with Newegg or their rebates or refurbished items. Many times refurbs are items that had a problem and now it's fixed. That same problem could be lurking in a new item if the problem was systemic. As far as rebates go, read them carefully and do them correctly and on time, and keep copies in case there is an issue. It's reported that 40 to 60 percent of rebates are never redeemed. The seller is hoping you screw up so they make extra profit. In all my years of shopping I've had one rebate not honored and that retailer never saw my business again.

Well to get an older unit which would be easier to mod would be to get this. Then again not everyone mods the wii.

There is nothing wrong with refurbs. Save yourself some money and do the research.

I buy refurbs, on items that don't have engines or spinning hard drives. I'd pay the extra $30 and get a new one.

Refurbs are like brunch at a Chinese restaurant: "Dim Sum you win, and Dim Sum you lose!"
