If all you need is a phone for emergencies and T-Mobile works in the areas you frequent, this is the way to go. You can buy a $100 card and apply it to your account and you will have 1,000 minutes that don't expire for a year. After that you can add $10 to extend your expiration for another year. I average about $7/month for my wife's phone. Best deal going for infrequent/emergency use. Not to mention the brand new phone is practically free.

No. 4's right that this is a great deal for anyone who just needs a refill card. But if you're actually shopping for a phone, you should check out the Motorola v195. (It's really the v195s, which gets better reviews. Don't know why T-Mobile still has the older model number on there.)

For $10 more than the Nokia 1208, you get Bluetooth and better battery life and call quality, as well as the same $25 refill card.

I got the Moto V195 with the $25 card for $30 few weeks ago. Everyone in my family loves it. It's quad-band, loud and clear, small but sturdy. It's practically only 5 bucks. I love it. Way to go T-Mo.

You can unlock the Moto V195 using testpoint but unless you're fine with disassembling the phone and need an unlocked phone I wouldn't bother.

Or, after you've been with T-Mobile for a while, you can just ask them for an unlock code. I believe the requirement is that you've been a customer for at least 90 days and that you added a refill card of any amount within the past 30. But be sure to check out the details for yourself.

#3 When you buy $100 credit for 1000 minutes do you get charged daily charges for everyday use? I have an att phone that charges $1.00 for each day it is used and 10c per minutes. Does this T-Mobile charge minutes only? Thanks
