If you need a smart phone, get a Blackberry. T-Mobile sent a new BB to me BEFORE I returned the defective device to them. I have to send the Nokia to the factory BEFORE they even let me know what was wrong with the phone. In short, if you get a Nokia, you'd better have a backup.

So you're comparing a Mobile Carrier's warranty exchange program to a Manufacturer's warranty? That doesn't seem fair... <_< A better bit of advice would be to buy a phone that is officially sold by your carrier so that you can use their warranty exchange program. If you buy an unlocked device and bring it on someone's network, you have to go to the manufacturer for support and exchange, and their exchange proceedures suck. As far as I know all of the carriers in the US will send you a replacement (although it's refurbished) device, and then you send yours back to them. AT&T will do this with the nokia e71x purchased from wirefly.com, so your point is invalid. All electronics will have issues with defective units, but purchase an unlocked blackberry, and you'd have to deal with the same replacement policies as nokia directly.
