Now shipping... Barnes & Noble has the NOOK 7" Touchscreen Tablet on pre-order for $249 with free shipping. Seems like it'll be playing catch-up with the Kindle Fire, but does have twice the storage (16GB vs. 8GB for the Fire), expandable card slot and integrated Netflix and Hulu Plus.

  • TI OMAP4 1.0GHz, 7" touchscreen (1024x600), Android 2.3 OS
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, up to 32GB MicroSD, free cloud storage

Might as well wait for some of the better tabs (Iconia a500, thrive etc.) to come down a little more in price. Hopefully before christmas.

There Ben goes again using that word "catch-up". I already mentioned this in a previous post, I don't see what the Nook has to "catch-up" to. IT has some specs that make it superior to the Kindle Fire. Unless he means 1 month behind which is nothing.

1 month behind? Wasn't the Kindle Fire just released this past week?

I'm pretty sure "catch up" was meant in the subscriber/user base, when compared to Amazon's clout in the Prime/Kindle Reader area.

Still it has nothing to catch up to hardware wise. It is the next iteration of a year old product so it cannot even be considered bebind the Fire there.

The only advantage that Fire has is access to movies through Amazon prime. (So if your a prime member that might be a consideration). Nook has Netflix app. Possibly a modded Nook will be able to run Amazon Prime. Otherwise the Nook appears to be the better buy with the increased storage and better screen.

Agree - technically superior AND I can use all of my Color accessories! Take that iPad! Besides, Amazon Prime is what, $70 a year?

please release netflix app for the touchpad! If this nook can handle it, the touchpad can easily handle it.
