eBay with Barnes & Noble has the refurbished nook color Wi-Fi eBook Reader (BNRV200) for $119 with free shipping. Features a 7" color display with 16 million colors, Wi-Fi support, 8GB internal storage, and micro SD support.
i already have one (use for ebook reading and some surfing) and would be tempted to buy another one if i wasn't saving that $120 to go towards a refurb nook tablet (as soon as it hits < $200 and cyanogenmod releases a firmware for it).
my nook color was bought refurb from barnes & noble's ebay store and it arrived in perfect condition except for a small scuff on the bezel that you can only see if you hold it just right in the light.
There is not a better tablet you can buy at this price. Forget the Chinese knockoffs and get one of these if your tablet budget is in this low range. Just be aware that you need to hack in a good rom in order to fully realize the potential of this tablet. However, the hacking process is pretty easy to follow. It's almost impossible to brick this unless you way overclock and cook the CPU or do something physical to it. It can boot from an SD card so you can always restore to factory if things go horribly wrong.
This is very tempting, but my research shows the hacking process to look pretty painful unless you really know what your are doing. If I knew someone who could do this for me then I would buy 2 of them. Anyone else wonder why there seems to be an unlimited supply of these refurbished units? I wonder why so many were returned in the first place. This is the deal that won't go away...
Grandmaster. Don't hack the root (the internal portion of the nook). Buy a SD card like jjmaestro mentions. Most will let you dual boot and if you want the Nook put back to stock, just remove the SD card. Awesome price.
I love this tablet, which I did buy back when it was $150. A preformatted SD card that will do all of the dual-boot work for you can be purchased off of eBay -- if you shop carefully, you can buy one for about a $10 markup over a regular old SD card. I actually just went ahead and rooted it anyway after I dual-booted it for a few days because I was never doing anything but using the tablet.
As for the concern about the number of refurbed tablets, they've got to be returns. I suspect the reason is that color ebook readers don't have the contrast and quite the ease on the eyes as e-paper readers. People try them out and don't like them, or can't figure out what to do with them. These can't be broken/repaired tablets -- there's no margin in fixing them and selling them again. I also suspect some of these might just be dumped stock. For example, my refurb looked brand new in every way.
