The time has come for all you holdouts to start buying up what you need to build your system for the new year. I just glanced through our exclusive PC Builder and was frankly amazed at what you can put together using today's deals, mostly from NewEgg.com. Everything below is $335 total after rebates, just add Memory/CPU/Motherboard/Video.
Acer X193Wb Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor = $100
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB Hard Drive = $130
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case = $60
Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply = $15
Logitech VX Revolution Black 8 Buttons Tilt Wheel Mouse = $10
Asus Black 20x DVD+/-RW/-RAM Writer = $20
just add motherboard, cpu and memory? ok ... then add another $300 to the price. no "amazement" at all. duh.
Well subtract $100 if you already have a monitor
oh, I forgot one minor item ... operating system!
"just add Memory/CPU/Motherboard/Video" LOL thats everything of significance!
600 or 700 dollars might not sound cheap, but 600 dollars worth of name brand parts is way better than a 600 dollar compaq, hp, dell, etc. s that will slow down or break down within a year or two.
Ben isn't the sharpest tool in the tool shed.
motherboard, cpu, ram, video card, sound card, os all left to buy.... pricy
..taking you to a thousand bucks final price. nothing to see here, move along.
Keyboards? We don't need no stinkin keyboards! I do all my computing by just cutting and pasting using a mouse. Like this message for example. Sure it took me 45 minutes to compose but at least I saved money by not having to buy a keyboard.
Ben is right, you can have a completely usable system for $335.
Let's see:
Motherboard: Completely optional. Unnecessary waste of money.
CPU: I can count. Not needed.
Memory: I remember stuff therefore also not needed.
Video Card: I don't need some machine creating images for me. I have a good imagination. Also not needed.
Voila! The ultimate computer for $335. Thanks Ben! (please don't ban me)
And you don't have any keyboards sitting around. What kind of geek are you?
#11 the type that has one keyboard per computer. Fine, I'll admit my keyboard collection pales in comparison to your vast keyboard collection. I am so ashamed!
i'm done building pc's. it's notebooks and netbooks for me.
If you really wanted, a cheap-o build it your self computer could cost under $300. (if you had some basics like monitor & input devices) but once you start putting in higher end components, then the price starts to skyrocket and Dell & HP start looking like a real option, buck for buck.
More like holiday piece of baconnaise. PCof-baconnaise. Get it?
Ben is a dumb ni99er.
What in the hell are you guys complaining about? You look at the final price and decide that it's a horrible deal? This is an AMAZING base to start from to build a great computer! I know we are all geeks and have most of these components laying around already, but think about someone who HAS A LIFE and is looking to purchase every component NOW. Antec 900 case?!?! SWEEET!!! 500W power supply for $15?! MONITOR!?! 1.5TB drive?!? Obligatory DVD writer and cool mouse?!? Get off of your frickin high horses!
I bought the 900 case. Almost went for the PS. Already had a VX Revolution. Great mouse except it has a nastry habit of developing a double-click problem (as in it unintentionally double-clicks). One of the plastic pins inside wears out with time and causes accidental, intermittent double-clicking. Happened on mine after a year.
Does anyone know where to find the case in the picture for this article?
