Amazon has the OBi110 VoIP Telephone Adapter & Voice Service Bridge for $42 with free shipping. Still supports Google Voice and features SIP & OBiTalk VoiP services. The OBi110 includes an FXO port to connect a landline (not included in the OBi100 model).
I've been watching this for a month and this is the lowest I've seen it. It was $45 for a day last week. Newegg charges $50 + shipping + tax = over $60.
#1 Google announced they're continuing free US/CA calls for 2012.
#2 I've got the OBi100 (think it was $32) and it works fine. I'd imagine a lot of people using VOIP as the home line end up killing the landline, making the 110 kind of dumb.
Can somebody explain the difference between OBI110 and OBI100?
First time heard abut this device. If I understand you correctly, it allows to easily hook up regular phone to Google phone service via Ethernet Port with internet. So incoming calls will always be free, and outgoing calls are free for now... What else? What's good in OBiTalk?
To btc909: I use CallCentric and, yes, they do provide E911 service. Connected the ATA to my home wired phone system and all is well. Have been using it for years. I have not used this particular ATA.
Still not clear regarding the difference between OBi110 and OBi100. Probably in many cases it's better to have two separate lines and to operate with two handsets or with a multi-line phone...
Google voice is great as long as your not trying to port your land line to it since they will only port cell numbers unless their policy has changed. If you have an old unused Tmobile cell phone or buy a cheap pay as you go one you can port a number to that and then port it to Google but it is a lot of screwing around. $20 per port and the cost of a phone or at least a refill card puts it at > $50. I had my land line number for a very long time so wanted to keep it so jumped through the hoops.
Got the Obi100 and cancelled my land line. Works GREAT. Ported my land line number to a 10 dollars walmart phone then ported it to google voice for 20 bucks. was easy and did not require much screwing around at all. zero problems. no more monthly fees!

This sounds great, and it's exactly what I did. Until I hit a brick wall.
Turned out that after I ported the home phone to a Trakfon, my particular area code wasn't fracking available for porting to GV. That had never occurred to me -- I should have checked GV first!
To the uninitiated: if you haven't set up a Voice account, you have 3 options when you start...
- Let GV give you a random number (you can usually select the area code, except in rural areas like mine that are "not available") - You can get a (hopefully long) list of numbers in your area, and pick your favorite - You can port your cell phone (again, mine was a no-go) -- that's free for the first shot, but $20 to change that number
AFAIK home numbers (still) cannot be directly ported. In my case, I let the home number die and picked up a new one (out of my calling area, but it's free so whatever).
Oh, one more thing. OBi has an Android app that allows you to call on your Android device (over either cell or wifi), routing it through your VOIP connection. So basically you can be out and about, and make a VOIP call (the same as if you were home) but with your cell or tablet. The app is pretty crappy but it works.
Best value out there. Can't beat phone service for a 1-time $42 charge (at least until Google Voice starts charging)

Works pretty well with GV but will occasionally drop a call. Also, no 911 so not a true substitute for household VOIP but makes a good office line.

I read you can get E911 via callcentric for a buck something per month. Don't know if this is true or not. I'm considering this device as well.
It's back up to $50. The Obi100 is $44.

OBi110 lets you use a land line in addition to VOIP. You can switch between the two on the same phone handset by pressing #. OBI100 is just VOIP.

I'm sticking with google voice. Free.
