Great PSU, this price is a steal.

Someone remind me again why the StealthStream is recommended over this PSU? I'd rather 700W over 500W if at all possible.

If your system can run fine from a 500W PSU there is no need to pick 700W instead. If your system is pushing the limits of or exceeding the capability of a good 500W PSU you won't want to run it long term on the mediocre build quality of a Sirtec manufactured ModXStream.

In other words, a decent 700W PSU doesn't usually cost $50 AR, if you don't need that much power you are better off with higher quality components than spending the $ on shorter term capacity.

Read that and it is certainly not Mediocre even at this price point.

    Its a steal at $50.

I have 2 and one runs a overclocked dual core AMD SLI setup with ease.

LOTS and LOTS of complaints about OCZ rebates on the egg.

Also, it's not money, it's a gift card.

And then there's this ridiculous and convoluted method to claim it where you have to create an account on their web site, then fill out and print a bunch of paperwork, and mail it in. And you have 30 days from the time you purchase (NOT from when you receive the product).

OCZ rebates: Just say "No thank you".

I have gotten all my OCZ rebates. Not really sure if it is because I do them the day I get the items in or I make copies before I send them into the places.

#4, the reason it is mediocre is it is expected to have shorter lifespan due to the low quality fan and capacitors.

You did notice that they mentioned the generic capacitors in the initial review that the linked review intended to revisit, no? Blown capacitors are the #1 failure point in a PSU after the first year of use.

quality standards can be escalated high enough that everything's crap, like saying a honda/toyota is crap by comparing it to a bmw but this is a good product and for $50 this is a very good deal. I would get one if I didn't have a spare.

Buy.com has a bad habit of raising prices when the item is selling well. I guess you lose when you snooze.

Not quite true, a Honda/Toyota is expected to have equal or better lifespan than other alternatives, while this PSU is not. It would be a bit more like saying you can either have a Toyota or a Lexus, but to make the Lexus cheap enough to consider the entire interior has to be made out of cardboard.

You can literally expect a high quality $50 PSU that is already 5 years old to outlast this one. The crucial detail is which parts wear out first and that the budget be put into those parts first. That it is higher capacity than some just exacerbates the problem if you actually need the capacity rather than spending the money on other parts besides the larger transformer.
