Down with rebates!
how is this compared to the $50 ones from J&R?
Great deal...if you get your rebate.
I hate rebates, but this has been a great PSU for me and my 2 HD 4850's
Seriously .. how hard is it to fill out a rebate form? How can anyone not get their rebate check/card if they've done it correctly? I've filled over 30 rebates in the past year and have gotten ALL of it (I keep track of the rebate on a spreadsheet). Seriously, rebates are fine, there's nothing wrong with rebate, and If you are one of those that did not get your rebate back, must consider going back to pre-school to learn how to write your name correctly.
#5 is like a dog. He likes getting trained to jump through hoops! Rufff! Now sit and role over! Good boy!!!
#5 Yes, and No.. Me myself, No trying to bragg or what. In my life time, I submited over 500 rebates. I never consider myself a rebates KING, but willing to bet on something for nothing or as cheap as I can get it for. Let me put it this way, I get 85% of my rebates back. The 15% no matter what you do you just will not see it.. Simple, That the fact of life I guess. As for Manufactured and Retailer, Their are willing to bet on people that are to busy or lazy to fill in correct rebates, That's how they make money. (meaning your just paying full retail price). Another words, you got lucky.. Oh!.. Speadsheets is good way to keep track, If it works for you that good..
Here how I do it, Created a folder under document as (REBATES) I scan all my rebates to document folders forms and upc sign and dated, if you get twenty rebates put it all in that folders, Created another folder (PAID) once you got it drag and drop. Sometimes Manufactured say that you did'nt submit, you can either print it out again or email them. I usually email them, the proof..
Over all, I agree with many of you, I hate rebates too. Too much Bull.. To a point, I am good at just seening who and what manufactured doing the rebates, before I buy or pass.. As of OCZ they are good just make sure you fill everything correctly..
A few years back, the statistic was >80% of rebates never get submitted. Retailers know this and put ridiculous restrictions on the rebates to ensure the 20% actually submitting will run into obstacles. I have tracked that about 20 -30% of my rbaconbates.come back as "invalid due to xyz reason..." It is a total scam. I ALWAYS keep copies of my documentation as after calling and informing them of my copy of my valid rebate, they magically change the status to valid. I am not one for government regulation but it would seem some fair play should be enforced.
So is 700W really necessary these days? Looking to rebuild my 2nd PC at some point, and it has only a 380W Antec in it today.
Sweet power supply, second tier to Corsair but still very nice and quiet. It's powering an i5 @ 4ghz and 4890 @ 950mhz with no problem whatsoever. Modular cables makes it a deal. Better than my 500w Antec earthwatts.
I have had no issue with any rebate so far. However, one day I wonder whether I have spent too much time, half an hour or more, to fill out paper, to cut labels, etc... to get some bucks.
You already lost, if you do the rebates financially. It's okay if doing it for fun IMHO.
BTW, Staples is the best in term of rebate. We can do the rebate online in couple minutes.
espreso (#5) My problem is not due to the fact that rebates are a gamble (glad to hear you received all your rebates in the past, but not every is as fortunate as you, 15 percent won't see their money again.) nor I am lazy to fill one out. It is the fact that I have bills to pay. I may have 50 dollars to spare but not 80. Get my drift? So, for folks under a budget like me, anything that needs a mail-in rebate isn't so much a deal.
OCZ rebates have been good to me. Most of them are received within 2 to 3 weeks as opposed to the 7-10 weeks that others take,
Knock on wood...over the years I've received all my rebates so far. The only ones I didn't get were the ones I was too lazy to send (like the $5.00 ones), but in general I agree that they're a hassle. Then there's more than one time when I actually got the rebate checks and forgot them, only to find them when they expired.
If you are so tight on the bills you can't manage +-$30, quit buying freakin' computer parts and save up a few dozen dollars (then hundreds, then thousands...). Always, ALWAYS have a reserve cash buffer saved up... even if you have to sell some crap to create it.
Just having a few thousand in the bank you can come out ahead on the interest versus fooling with rebates at all if you really don't want to fill any out.
I agreed with all of you that rebates are bunch of bulls. And their process is just to make you feel like "oh sh!t I have to do this and that for this stupid $5.. f that!" .. BUT.. if you are willing to buy into a rebate then fill them out properly and keep copies. Yes I scan all of them onto my comp and filed them. I guess I am just lucky that I got all of my rebate back.
But my though is that, NOT ALL rebates are good deal, but if you are buying into a rebate, then you must follow through.
If you know you will spend 10 minutes, +paper +ink for $1 rebate, then why do it at all? It's just not worth it, but if you are doing it for something worth while to you then spend a proper amount of time and do it right 1) keep track when it will come back 2) save a digital/paper copy.
Again, maybe I am just lucky but I am 30/30 and have saved over $1000 over the year, it might not be a lot, but it's enough to fuse my porn collection! =)
