Newegg has the OCZ Vertex Plus OCZSSD2-1VTXPL240G 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for $140 - $20 rebate [Exp 10/15] + $0 shipping = $120 shipped. Features up to 255MB/s max read and write performance.
My Vertex Plus died after around 6 months of use.
Mine didn't die, but it always gets lost in OS causing a shutdown and reassignment in bios.
Make sure to upgrade the firmware on any of these drives before you install an OS on it.
There are lots of negative reviews on these drives. I do still have my 120 gb running on my laptop as the primary drive but I went through the painful process of losing the OS and all the apps+data on it. Upgrading the firmware on it fixed the drive as the OCZ tech support suggested but I wish I had known that from the beginning.
Bottomline is if you buy one of these relatively cheap drives make sure you upgrade the firmware first and then after you install your OS+apps, make sure you have good regular backups (data backups or full system/bare metal backups are the best).
Don't keep any data on this drive, that you cannot afford to lose. Maybe invest in Carbonite first, or use this as a boot-os drive only.
Price is keeping dropping, how about the quality? dropping or better?
i think it would be better continue to wait, till it get cheaper and more reliable.
