      Not the best camera. But I've known people who've run it through washer and dryer cycles.

      It's good enough for everyday use, including in snow, in water. It's also a good camera for kids and teenagers because of it's shockproof capability.

      If you want the really rugged one, you need to get the 1030 SW. The 1050 is not as waterproof (10ft vs 33ft) or as shockproof (6.6ft vs 5ft)

      I have this camera. It's not the best for taking pictures, but it's aight. It's perfect snow boarding b/c my cannon freezes up all the time.

      I would imagine that that lens mechanism would have to be simplified substantially to survive cold and water. Nice, though, that it has image stabilization. Seems like environments where you would need this are the same environments you would need image stabilization.
