I think with a Harmony and only 2 HDMI sources (for now), I can live without HDMI passthrough. Am I missing something? I don't want to pay significantly more to future proof my receiver when the money could be better spent on getting quality sound.
Even 3 HDMI in / 1 out isn't going to be enough for my needs, so when I upgrade my receiver from 5.1 to 7.1 I'm just going to get a great deal on a non-HDMI receiver, and buy a HDMI switching box.
Hey... J&R has the 605 available in June.. Based price $499. Pre-order price $399.. TX-SR605 MSRP $499 Shipping mid May *Full A/V Processing via HDMI 1.3a with Upconversion (2 in 1 out) *HDMI Deep Color Capable (36bit) *Component Video Upconversion and HDTV-Capable (50 MHZ) Video Switching (3 in 1 out) *WRAT/ Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry/ Non-Scaling Configuration/ A-Form Listening Mode Memory/ RI *Faroudja DCDi *Audyssey 2EQ Room Acoustics Correction *7.1 Multichannel Inputs for PCM Delivery of Hi-Def Audio Sources *DOLBY Decoder - PLIIx, DD, DD-EX, TrueHD *DTS Decoder - DTS, ES, NEO6, 96/24, HD Master Audio *S-Video (5 in 2 out) *Digital Audio IN (OPT/COAX) 3/3 *Composite Video (5 in/2 out) *Power 90W/Ch *Powered Zone 2 and Zone 2 Line-Out *Bi-Amp Capable *XM and Sirius ports *XM HD Surround Sound through Neural Surround
Not all people need HDMI, in most situations Component will render an identical picture.
That being said, I bought this receiver last time a deal like this came out and I hate it. The sound is weak. My 5.1 Sony DB receiver drives the same speakers powerfully and with agility and you can hear much more of the sound spectrum clearly. This is clearly a budget buy from a brand that used to represent quality.

@2 yeah, you appear to be missing that it has no HDMI inputs or outputs whatsoever -- this is legacy technology.
@4 Give me all that in a Panasonic digital AV control receiver at about $300 and I'll go for it
good price for non hdmi, if you can wait, non hdmi boxes are going to drop
Whats a good model with HDMI? Thanks.

#9: Yeah i think so too. Last time i checked one out, it didnt sound too good. Obvious lack of power/clarity.
