Ends 11/21. Newegg has the Onkyo TX-NR717 7.2-Channel Home Theater A/V Receiver for $490 with free shipping. Normally around $600. Features Onkyo Remote Apps that provide internet radio and cloud music streaming. Excellent Amazon reviews.
More bad reviews. Onkyo needs to get this crap together or they will be a thing of the past. I have a 705 and in order to get the firmware that it needs I have to mail in a form releasing them of liability or take it to a dealer and pay them to do it. The firmware fixes their problem. No way! All of their receivers have the same reviews. I will be going with Yamaha - great reviews and features.
The 709 was network upgradable, the 707 and older were not. The 705 is an antique, The 709 was a great receiver and even better than the 717 because it had Audyssey MultiEQ XT room correction. The 717 was downgraded to plain MultiEQ.
The secret to Onkyos is keeping good air flow around them. Onkyo uses much better power supplies than their competition that means more power with all channels driven and more heat. Don't stick them in a fully enclosed cabinet or small cubbyhole and they do fine.
705...antique??? Only 4 years old. WOW. Had the 805.....returned it because Onkyo hadn't figured out how to get the video and audio to arrive at the same time. From the little I've read., they STILL haven't figured it out. 805 had GREAT audio specs; can't say that it blew me away. I'm with bclinton, have a Denon and one of the rear channels of the 7.1 is out.....may look at Yamaha next time.
