#1 - Onkyo refurbs are really good deals. They are normally just returns that are repackaged... The members at the AVScience forums (AVSForum.com) feel they are good deals and worth the refurb issue. They come with 2 year warranty anyway... buy with a credit card that gives you extra year and you have 3 years....
2 year warranty was $40..
I just bought the H/K AVR-146 on BF. Only 30 watts per channel, but the audio is such great quality, even when I blast it.
I bought a refurb 502 from them 2.5 years ago. To this day no problems (knock on wood). The case was in perfect condition, but one of the "sales" or specification stickers was scuffed. No big deal, I remove them anyway. Good buy on a good product. They have my vote.

I have the 604 which is essentially the same except it lacks a few features like on-screen menu at HD resolution and 480i/p upconversion. Not really an issue for me.
Sounds awesome with my all Velodyne sub and 7 surround speakers.

I have this unit, came with the Onkyo HTIB (Home Theater In A Box) I got from J&R a few years ago. Powerful, awesome sound. However I think I got mine a bit cheaper. Next time, THX Certified or nothing.
