Takes 10 times the wattage to double the volume. Doubt the Sony has that much more power than the Onkyo to make much difference. Sony's ES line can compare to Onkyo as far as sound quality goes, but not their budget line.
If you are on the fence, how much lower do you think this will go? $320, doubt it. $340, maybe. $360, seen that but I think $360 is the best you could hope for in the near term. Consider though that price is hit and miss if you are willing to roll the dice to save $40 bucks when you could just get smart about who you order it from by saving tax and shipping and make up the $40 in smart buying instead of waiting.
You could be watching all yer sheyot on a single wire Hi-Def output with 7.1 sound, auto speaker setup, XM/Sirius compatibnility, iPod compatibility, multiremote, faroujda image processing. multi-room, assignable inputs and outputs and an array of digitial formats and component outs.
Newbie question. If I want to connect my PS3 (with output 1080p) to this receiver through HDMI cable, the video signal will be downconverted to 720p or 1080i when outputting over HDMI from the receiver to my Samsung LCD TV? Thanks.
Got one in black. Mine was making popping sounds and I had to return it. Once it came back from Onkyo all was good. I believe AVS forums had more details on this popping issue. Solid budget receiver!
$20 or higher in taxes.
Amazon has it cheaper. Granted .. return shipping will cost money (compared to walking to the nearest CC)
get the sony dgr 910 from amazon, much more power, less money.
I have one of these - really solid and great features. Excellent choice for this price range.

It will stay 1080p
If the TV is 1080p you'll be fine
Great, thanks. My TV is 1080p.

Onkyo makes very good receivers at good prices. The only problem is that this one could be a lil low in wattage, if you have higher end speakers.
I don't see the $400 price. How do you get this deal?
I just bought the SR605 for $364 Brand New shipped.
I got it from TigerDirect.com which is selling them for $389, and then went to this site, http://www.ultimatbacon.com/coupons/tiger_direct_coupons.htm, which allows you to buy from TigerDirect through Shopping.Com and enter the coupon code WIN25 to get an additional $25 off the price, so $364 with free shipping and no sales tax.
WOOHOO!
