Harmon Kardon, Yamaha, and Denon are all better value for money, have a better feature set, and are of superior quality in this price range. You're welcome.
I dont know about the HK or Yamaha but the Denon lacks Dolby True HD and DTS-HD support and only has 2 HDMI inputs.
This Onkyo has 4 HDMI inputs and supports the True HD and DTS-HD audio formats.
So m0f0 the homo is moving on being rodeo cowboy in home theater and getting pwned into oblivion on this subject?
Seriously people, Onkyo TX-SR606 is what you should get. Like many people, I'm also waiting on TX-SR806. Now if you tell me to avoid TX-SR806 because of heat issue, then you have a point. But Onkyo is made in Japan, unlike the HK, Yamaha or Denon which are made in China these days.
Which specific receiver is a better value at $360?
Just remember that I have to pay 6% tax in my area.
Thanks, #5, we'll remember that going forward. Ben, please jot this down...
I can actually get a 705 for around the same price as the 606. The 705 is THX certified (nbd to me), higher wattage, but has one less HDMI input (which is big for me since I already have my HR20, HD-XA2, and PS3 that would utilize those 3 from the get-go) and what appears to be inferior upscaling. I'm sure there are far more significant differences but that's where you come in. Any input appreciated and subsequently ridiculed by everyone that posts after you...
I have one of these. It's really really great. 4 HDMI inputs are really a big selling point. It's so easy to fill it up. Get a decent speaker set with this receiver for optimal home theatre experience.
Ah, M0F0 is trolling again.
This is a sweet deal for the 606 from an authorized Onkyo reseller that has a 30 day return policy. Not bad at all.
Too bad the 805 isn't still listed on the website - I would have been all over it for the coupons (in store it's $699 on close out). Instead I had to go 6Ave.com on that.
Several manufacturers have things on close out for new models at the moment, but the old models are still very up to date technology wise, so I wouldn't be that afraid of them (many would argue the 806 is a downgrade from the 805 save for the 2 additional HDMI inputs).
Yeah Onkyo has always made good A/V components. For everything this one has to offer, it looks like a pretty good deal to me. And the fact that Onkyo units are still actually made in Japan doesn't hurt either...although I've owned Sony ES, Denon, Yamaha and Pioneer Elite receivers in the past decade that none of which were made in Japan and have had no problems. Usually any problems I got were from UPS and FedEx punting the boxes which then cause damage there.
I own one of these and can say that I'm very happy with it. Sure the Denon and HK units look a tad bit nicer but thats really just a nit-pick.
Set up is really easy and calibrating takes about 10 mins with pretty much no effort. Just plug the included mic in, let it analyze 3 listening areas and youre done. The results are pretty impressive.
This is a very good price.
Onkyo makes a good product. Just make sure you don't put it in an enclosed cabinet. Onkyo's usually have heat issues.
Indeed #12. Over 200 people died in house fires last year caused by Onkyo receivers that exploded due to heat issues.
#13: PUT UP OR SHUT UP!!! Give everyone here the link to your claim.

What's the big deal with electronics and heat? What a bunch of sissies. I say the hotter the better.
