Instead of making video and audio more and more realistic, how you ever thought of getting your big fat ass off the sofa and going outside?

NorthSouth, have you ever thought about getting your humongous, lard filled, fat, blubbery ass off the sofa and into an English classroom? *smirk*

#3: The reviews on Circuit City are more negative than the ones on Amazon. AVForums should give you any info you need, or check for reviews from Cnet and the like.

Bottom Line: This is an ok price for an ok product that is probably overkill for most users.

#6, then you are a traitor to this great country (USA). Why don't you dream about buying the equivalent American made product for 3X the price? Is it because you want to support those commie Japanese? Lets not forget Pearl Harbour. Here in Texas we will never forget. Every November 7 I make sure to observe a moment of silence no matter what I am doing or how busy I am. That's because I am a true conservative and a true patriot. Phags.

"Bottom Line: This is an ok price for an ok product that is probably overkill for most users."

This is generally regarded as one of the best and most featured units for the price. Granted many users aren't concerned about the following (see list of the features I like, below). However for me this is the KEY piece in making your LCD or Plasma usable by everyone in the family and reducing the clutter. Since sound is 50% of the experience, it seems a little silly to spend $2000 on a flat screen TV and speakers and then $150 on a cheap Amp and have a bunch of remotes to chase.
-> Built in HDMI switching (four inputs to 1 output) allows for ONE setting on the TV (ie no input switching between TV and DVD)
-> HDMI-CEC compatability. That is the TV volume and shutdown also turn off / on the Amplifier, or vice-versa. Very cool if you have HDMI 1.3 equipment. I have a Samsung LCD and all of my remotes now power the TV and Receiver and change the volume. Finally! (AnyNet+, Bravia, etc compatible).
-> Audyssey auto setup for surround sound is regarded as very capable.
-> Low volume. Allows for late night listening without losing clarity.
-> Adjustable crossover. Adjust where the subwoofer takes over, based on the limitations of your particular speakers.
-> Excellent remote. I thought it was much better than others (ie Denon's toy-like remote). I had no problem setting it for all of my stuff, including Verizon FIOS box!
Of course I have a PS3, and it cannot control that Sad as those use BlueTooth.
-> Sound quality. Of course this is subjective, but I think it is a huge step up from my previous $150 Sony system.
-> TrueHD, if you car... [Truncated]

I just got one from amazon.com for $387 with free shipping.

I have a question for #8, how do you do this?

How do you hook up your TV to the receiver?

You forgot my favorite feature (at least with my 605). The one that sets the volume to a preset level upon power up. That way you don't get blown of the couch because you forgot to turn the volume down last time Smile

With an HDMI cable. As mentioned, your TV has to be HDMI 1.3a compatible. Up until very recently, few of them were.

605 was an amazing system. this does everything that 605 does with 2 more HDMI ports which are a must these days.

overall I'm quite pleased with the ONkyo. It does everything I need and nothing I don't

and yes I bought it for jesus and america.

I have the 605, loaded with features, but I am dissappointed with several things:

Second room output cannot receive any digital inputs, which is EVERY input except my record player. No use having the record player output to a second room either, since you have to be back to flip the disc at least every 30 minutes.

No B speaker output. I could live without a second room output if it had A+B switching, but this doesn't even have a second set of speaker outputs.

Power - this is significantly weaker than a $300 Sony receiver I bought in 2000. At the same relative volume the Sony was very clean, the Onkyo is very, very harsh on the ears, and blew one of my speakers. Basically the Sony could be set at 1/2 volume and be very loud, and clean, the Onkyo at 3/4 power was distorted and harsh and not quite as loud. Shame the Sony was struck by lightning and died.

If you aren't picky, and are just using this receiver to watch movies, it might be fine, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Mine will be sent to the garage as soon as I find the money to spend on a better receiver. I will probably go with Yamaha since they are the only company that seems to be consistant with their products.

This is rated by most qualified reviewers as one of the finest RSVRs on the market. No Sony comes close! Yamaha and Denon are close but still not there.
