Ends at 10PM PT. Tech.woot! has the refurbished Ooma Telo VoIP - Free Home Phone Service with Unlimited U.S. Calling, Caller-ID, Call-Waiting, 911 & Voicemail with No Monthly Fee for $100 + $5 shipping = $105 shipped. Works with any corded or cordless phone; easy installation with no computer required.
It was about $3.50/month for me when I used it. It varies by local municipality but most online feedback indicates similar cost. You can also get an Obihai device for ~$50 and use a free google voice account and have zero monthly cost. You won't get 911 service, and it also drops calls more often, but it mostly works. I use that as my office line.
Also be aware that Ooma charges $80 to reactivate a device, even if you have not transferred ownership. They want to discourage you suspending service and seriously limit the resale value of the device. This kinda pssed me off and feel it's something they should have been more clear about BEFORE the purchase.
Ooma has worked great for me for the last 2 years. The $3.50/month is ALL taxes, including the 911 charge. This device has been selling for $130 new, in Costco recently.
i thought it was said that all new activations would now have a monthly fee.
Fee from Ooma ,No. Small monthly state tax, yes.

ive had my hub/scout for about 3 years, which is grandfathered so no monthly state tax.

more insightful
No reason at all to own this compared to the Obihai and google voice.
Isn't google voice going to cease the free calling to phones at some point?
Did somebody hijack Dave's account? He usually makes more insightful comments.
