Buy.com has the refurbished Ooma Telo VoIP - Free Home Phone Service with Unlimited U.S. Calling, Caller-ID, Call-Waiting, 911 & Voicemail with No Monthly Fee for $160 with free shipping. Works with any corded or cordless phone; easy installation with no computer required.
Have had Ooma for a few months now and it works great. Reviews are plentiful so I won't post one but I did want to point out one negative that I didn't realize when I subscribed to the service. Unless you get the premium service for $10 per month, the caller id service provided is number only, no names show up. You can go to ooma.com, review your call logs and enter names and numbers into your phone book to allow those names to appear but otherwise, numbers only.
agree with #1. Guys - hard look here - this service works very very well. Ive had it for a month now - no dropped calls - no issues with quality. I dropped my cable company voip - and I am very happy with the ooma service. The other thing is you will pay tax - typically $3 a month. All in all great service - great portal - great features - nice cordless handsets (extra $49.00) -- I have 2. You can join calls with them or make calls. They will give you 2 phone numbers - you can have 2 simultaneous calls going. Do the research - you wont be dissapointed!!
Thank you #1 and #2 for the info. I've just ordered this for my folks. I'm paying over $35/month on Vonage. If everything works out, this unit will pay for itself in less than 6 months. Regards.
#4 yes, it's $35, or free with the premier service(which is $120yr) I was leery when I first read about ooma, but way glad to took the chance, as I haven't seen a phone bill since July! F-U Comcast... Never dropped a call, no problems what so ever! This is the newer "Telo" version, as I opted for the Hub/Scout setup(since discontinued) but I think you can still buy them through Amazon, etc, as with the Hub/Scout you dont have to pay the taxes(guess that started with the Telo?!?!) No regrets!!
yes you can port your number. if i remember right it'll cost you $10 or $25. i too have an ooma. my first one died on me within a few months, but the replace has been working for over a year now. well worth it. there are a few features that i would like to have but it's all on their premier package. no premier for me, too pricey.
I switched to Ooma in Jan 2009. It works great, no issues whatsoever.
1. like others pointed we need premier service for additional features. I think if they reduce the premier service fee, everyone will subscribe to it. Anyway, I dont have premier service now, and pay only the 911 charges ($12 a year) and thats it. Since these days we use our cell phone more, I opted for this voip service just an alternate and to keep my original landline number.
2. I looked at magicjack. But the issues are a. need a pc to run this, b. no number porting. I tried to configure the magicjack SIP info on an ATA, but couldnt complete.
Hope Ooma makes enough money to be in the business.

The Telo supports fax, which was not there on the HUB. Loves mine.
