Got this as a home office line. Works pretty well. I still have to pay $3/month for taxes. You can subscribe to their premier service for extra goodies but the basic service works fine.

I bought a Cisco ATA (roughly $35 then) from Amazon years ago and have been using Call Centric. Costs about $3.50/mo. That's for E911 and ported #. But I pay approx. $0.015/min. Chose that plan because I make so few calls from home. Works very well and offers many features. Have since bought a spare ATA on Craigslist for $5. I keep the modem, ATA and 2 phones on a UPS just in case. Obviously, there are many options for VoIP now.

Ooma is easy, works great, do not need to have a pc on ( or even have a pc), lets you get voice mail online, cheap rates for international calls. WINNER!
