Newegg has the Optical Quantum Vinpower Digital 25GB 4X BD-R 50 Pack Blu-ray Discs (OQBDR04LT-50) for $30 with free shipping. Can store over 2 hours of 1080p high-definition video or 5 times more of standard DVD quality video. Amazon has it for the same price.
I haven't had any coasters at all with the Optical Quantum blank BDs, but I have had coasters with their DVD-DL discs. I get about an 85% success rate on those. Can't beat Verbatim for DVD-DL.
are fading/disappearing burns (what else to call it) the new "coaster"?
with cd-r/dvd±r the only problem that got widely report (but i never experienced; i was conservative about blank media brands) was bad/failed burns, which you knew immediately (either during the burn or afterwards when verifying the disc). this "it burns fine and immediately reads fine, but disappears after weeks/months" seems to be limited to bd-r as the only thing like that i experienced with other earlier optical media formats was cd-rs that couldn't be read on all drives 7 years later (but that's quite a bit different than no drive can read it a few months to a year like i've heard with bd-rs).
pukey: interesting that you're recommending memorex as i've heard they're ritek-br2 which supposedly has the same problem (unreadable after a few months to a year). i recently bought tdk and they were ritek-br2 and though they burned fine, i'm going to check them on a monthly basis since i'm using them for backups/archiving.
I've had burns on this brand for around a year, and they're still playing fine. Memorex has failed on the burn several times for me, but I have had perfect results from Maxell.....sometimes people get those two confused.
Sorry, these are junk. If you like not being able to access your data after a year then buy these.
If you want something reliable buy something else like Memorex.

Memorex? They are one of the worst brands I've used.
