OINKED1.com has the Option GT 7.2 Mbps EDGE/UMTS ExpressCard (AT&T) for $40 + $5 shipping = $45 with free shipping. It is interoperable on both Cingular's 3G BroadbandConnect and EDGE networks, and has tri-band coverage in high speed UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA areas as well as quad-band coverage on GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.

Anyone know if you can drop your iPhone SIM card in one of these and it will work? Or do you need a separate plan?

You need to add the option to your plan.

I prefer USB so it can work on netbooks.

You should be able to use your iPhone SIM card. As long as you have data services and a newer AT&T/Cingular card it should work.

It looks like these cards have their own $60/month plan.

#4, why would you take the Sim card out of your iPhone instead of just tethering it via iPhoneModem Jailbreak app. Kinda kills the whole use the iPhone as a phone option. As long as you are 'stealing' internet and breaking the law that way, why wouldn't you just make it easier on yourself and jailbreak the iPhone to enable tethering. Yes yes, I know tethering will be implemented in iPhone 0

#5 That is if you sign this thing up for it's own connection.
If you use your card it will just use the existing data plan. It is worth noting that if you use this to download very large amounts of data (with an iPhone sim for example) that AT&T might ask you if you are tethering your phone.

if the data plan is unlimited, why would it matter if u are downloading a large amount of data? if the cell phone companies care, then they should not call it the "unlimited" data plan.

It's unlimited as long as the data is displayed on a teeny tiny 3 inch screen.

Seems like the advantage here is that you can go month-to-month on AT&Ts mobile broadband plan without signing up for a 2 yr commitment to get the hardware for free.

#8 That's because tethering is specifically prohibited by your contract with an iPhone. #10 is right, if you surf with a teenie tiny phone, you just will not use that much data. So, they can say unlimited and not worry too much about actually delivering a lot of data.
