This is a really nice tool, although it would have been nice if they included a battery so that you can unplug it from the wall but still read the display.

Unfortunately, these things consume a staggering 240 Watts by themselves!

    #2 is dreaming.
I have couple of these and they consume less than 1 watt each.

#2 you either have no idea what you are talking about, or your kill-a-watt is way out of whack and about to explode. 240w is actually a lot of power, my 52in LCD pulls about that much. I do have two and did plug one into the other... around 1w.

They have these at my local Costco (yes, the 4460) for less. Yes, you've gotta pay tax, but if I remember correctly, it was like $26 and change, so I think it came out less than $30.

Buy one of these to see how much your PC consumes before rushing out to buy a 1KW power supply. My PC eats only about 250w running full tilt.

BTW if your electricity cost is about $0.12/KW-hour (fairly typical), then you don't need a calculator to figure your costs. Each watt equals about $1 annually if the device is left on 24/7. A 100W bulb costs $100/yr. Easy.

You are probably referring to steady-state power draw (albeit busy).
For a PSU you really need to know worst-case power draw which is typically at power-on when the hard disks are spinning up.
