Going with a 1080p TV makes a lot of sense to me since 1080p has taken hold. Blu-Ray is 1080p and I have read that cable/dish companies are also moving toward 1080p. A 720p TV has a resolution of 1280x720 whereas a 1080p signal has a resolution of 1920x1080. This means your 720p TV has to transform 1920x1080 to its native resolution of 1280x720. This transformation will degrade the picture. Whether or not you can detect the degradation depends on the viewer and a number of other factors (ex. viewing distance). Nikko insists that you can't see the difference but I disagree.

tesh I believe #14 was being facetious.

Nice set though. I can notice a slight difference when the Pannys are side by side but not enough for me to dish out another $200+. But it's all relative, to some others the extra $200 is money well spent.
Once you get the 720p set home though, I doubt you'd have any regrets unless you're using it a s a pc monitor maybe.

#2, you can if you sit close to the tv. Hence...you can notice a difference with a 720p computer monitor vs 1080 p :O Doh

Taken hold of what? Last I heard Blu-ray sales numbers were bleh at best and you're gonna be waiting a LONG time before you see any notable broadcast content in 1080p. Any blu-ray player will happily put out a 720p signal.

It's retarded to be fixated on a single aspect of picture quality, especially one that has rapidly diminishing returns as distance increases or screen size decreases. You can have all the dots in the world, but your human eye can only see so much, and nothing you "think" you can see is going to change that. Bottom line is 95% of people will perceive this set to have better picture quality due to its superior contrast ratio and refresh rate than any 1080p LCD anywhere near this price.

I paid $999 for this tv on amazon last spring.

This is a STEAL for such a great tv. The greatness of the deal is lost by all the 720 vs 1080 garbage.

You put this tv on your wall and enjoy whatever content that comes along. It has beautiful PQ.

I am having a hard time not getting another one to hang from the ceiling over the master bed. I wanna watch Conan up close and personal as I doze off at night...

How many dumbasses are gonna say "720p is so.(add ur comment here)" and "Plasma is so ....(add any negative comments here..) Give a rest people. Too bad that the 20% coupon is dead, otherwise I would have bought another one.

I bought this set last week for $699 + tax at Sears. Came out to $750 for me. I know I could have saved $100 by waiting a week... but honestly, I have no regrets. I have enjoyed playing my ps3 and watching blu-ray movies so much in the last week it was worth the extra hundo. If you are in the market for a phenomenal budget tv that produces PQ of a much more expensive tv, buy this one... you won't regret it.

ugh.... 20% coupon has expired or reached maximum redemption limit...

This TV, or earlier models, would have to check on specs. was going for $2000 2 years ago - that's what my buddy paid for it...

As TV technology evolves, prices come down, like PC's.

I leave my plasma TV turned off so I never get burn in. Someday I might turn it on and see what the picture looks like.
