Tiger Direct has the Panasonic 46" TC-P46U1 1080p Plasma HDTV for $800 + $99 shipping = $899 shipped. Features a 1080p resolution, 30000:1 native contrast ratio (pretty high if not a typo), and a 600Hz refresh rate. Plasma is back in the game. [Compare]

I think plasma has more bang for the buck than LCD, but understand glare can be a problem. My family room has a lot of sunlight, any recommendations?

A little expensive. They had a 42" last week for $480. I can't wait for a deal like that to come back.

Plasma is definitely the way to go. Glare can be a major problem so that's a consideration. Other than that, it beats LCD hands-down.

Ben, the contrast ratio is not a typo. Panasonic plasmas offer contrast ratio higher than that on some other models.

The 42" they had was only 720p though.

I have a 42" Panasonic plasma. It has an anti-glare filter that I think does a decent job of reducing glare.

#2 your best option is to install really good sun blinds on wherever that sun is coming in from. I used to have this really nice set in my apartment that was double railed. The first layer was sort of a white sheet that allowed light in but blocked anyone from a distance from seeing inside. The second one was a really thick and lovely curtain that didn't allow any light through. That really solved any glare issues for.

Be aware that plasmas draw a LOT more current than LCDs, run much hotter, and usually have noisy fans to dissipate the heat.

Not an ideal choice for a bedroom set...

Thanks all. Will look into anti-glare screen models as well as locating a cover for my skylight and perhaps window coverings (wife will be happy for this). Understand plasma heat and power consumption issues, but to need to balance that with the additional cost of an LCD with comparable picture quality.

Speaking of typo's (not that I'm nitpicking, just new to shopping for an HD TV); This listed as a *600* hz refresh rate- here and at Tiger Direct. Does 600hz refresh really exist?
