This is coming down from the $170 price it started at. Good to know if I need to replace. Panasonic isn't a great name brand for these drives, but it will work.

This seems like a good deal for a new drive. Closest the 'egg gets is a Sony/Optiarc for $289?!?! Perfect for laptop replacement or in a mini-itx box. Are there any problems with BD playback because of the IDE interface? Can't find any reviews for the internal, only the external which has USB.

So if I replace my existing DVD/CD drive with this and install, say, AnyDVD or PowerDVD am I ready to sit back and enjoy watching Blu-ray movies? I will probably have to change the face plate of the new drive so it fits my laptop. Wish there was one that played HD DVD's.Thanks.

Just look on ebay for 'laptop internal dvd' or even external dvd (and treat the enclosure, PCB and 5vdc power supply as a gift). Prices run about $40 including shipping. units are no-name, but pretty good.
