I jumped on this deal this weekend. I have the FZ8, which I've loved. This one is for me Ma. Very low shutter lag. Exceptional lens. Great low light performance for a superzoom. Really a great all around camera.

Never dealt with Abes before, but resellerratings got me to take the plunge. Just got off the phone with Morris, who confirmed that the camera would be shipping out today. He had a couple of low/no pressure questions about buying additional memory or a battery. So far so good. I should receive it in a week for $262. Ma's Xmas gift: check!

Have you tried RAW? I read a recent review and the included RAW software wouldn't even open the files, they had to do their review in JPEG.

#5 Sorry, never did try RAW, though that was one of the reasons I originally got the FZ8. Maybe I'll try that tonight.

    #2, I wasn't aware that this was a dSLR. This is a Point'n Shoot, not a dSLR.

Panasonic has adopted Olympus' 4/3rds system (2x crop) for its dSLRs. Although Panasonic uses in-lens IS instead of in-body IS, the latter is what Olympus offers. There's a lot of good to say about the 4/3rds system, although there are some caveats as well.

if you like this camera then you will probably love the panasonic DMC-FZ50 the next generation on the Lumix line. And ... I just happen to have on eBay for a very attractive price ... do a search for

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 10 Megapixel 12x Zoom Camera

    and you will find it.

#12 - the FZ50 is at least 3 yrs old. Great camera (I have it) but not the "next generation".

#2 and #6 have no idea what they are talking about. I have a Panasonic FZ7 as well as cameras by Nikon and Canon. Nikon and Canon both make great cameras but in no way take a dump on Panasonic. Panny's cameras are very well reviewed. Best kept secret in digital photography.
