If it was made by Canon, then maybe I might be interested.

#3 Canon's S5 takes off the shelf AA batteries vs. overpriced proprietary ones... does Pana?
    .
Pana exhibits más noise in lower ISO than Canon's S5. Is that a better attribute?
    .
True the Pana has 10 megaixel vs. 8, but is that necessarily critical since Canon S5 sports a better digital signal processor for pictures resulting in higher picture quality?
    .
You can sit back down now... the Canon S5 wins.

#5, Canon S5 is a piece of junk, I bought one from OM recently for $250+tax, autofocus worked like weather, stupid batteries and SD card are locate in same place, the 12x zoom is doesn't work as expected, I took it back after a day of use.
#5, when was the last time you purchased a (Pana or Nikon) Lithium batteries? Price is coming down too.
#5 the S5 with 4AA batteries weighted almost 1lb, so, there are plus and minus in term of batteries.
#Tried the Oly SP570, you'll throw your S5 is the garbage in a heartbeat.
#5 try your S5 higher than 80ISO, your face will look like crap because of noise.

OK #5, you can sit down and relax now, chill.

#6 While #5's post contained attitude, what value does your post contribute to someone contemplating a camera purchase in this price range?

#7 I own the S5 and you're totally wrong on all counts except the batteries - yes, they cause more weight on the camera but it allows one to hold the camera more steady so it's actually a plus in my view.

#7 I borrowed a friend's DMC-FZ28 and the autofocus was no different than the S5's. For both cameras most autofocus shots were spot on, while others were duds.

#7 "12x zoom doesn't work as expected" What the heck does that mean? A 12x zoom lens either works or it doesn't. Did you possibly have a defective unit?

#7 Since the S5 has a mini-USB port on the side of the camera body to transfer pictures, why is it an issue that the memory card is located in the battery compartment?

#7 You're also a bonehead to throw the Oly SP570 in the mix because, 1.) it costs almost $200 more than the S5 which puts it in a different league of camera, and, 2.) it takes 4 AA batteries like the S5 which was one of your arguments AGAINST (or for?) the S5.

Ok #'s 6&7, you can sit down and relax now.

#8, I knew it, sorry I opened a can of worm, just got bore from work, I got fire from a radio station, what I did was ...I tried to draw the rating of the station I worked for, I got a bunch of listener called in, you were included Smile

I you need a heavy camera to help your hand from shaking, I don't know what else to tell you. Good luck with your S5.

Now we can all can sit down, PEACE V

So I guess photographers who own tripods are fools because they like to keep the camera steady? Having a steady camera becomes more critical for long zoom shots which a heavier weighted camera helps to achieve. Yes optical image stabilization helps, but so does a steady photographer.
