Old model + tax = pass.
Panasonic makes some good wireless phones. I had a Uniden set that was only a few years old and the headsets would periodically bug out and seem to reboot. It got bad enough that I decided to dump it. Most of the time I abandon a phone system because I want more features but the workmanship on the Uniden set is what did it in. I remember my panny sets always worked until the day I replaced them so I want back to them. I have had this set for over a year now and it's all goodness.
Ben also failed to note that the $60 price is after $20♦♦ Easy Rebate in the form of a prepaid Visa.
I bought the KX-TGA101S 4-unit set last year from Frys.com. The mic on one handset stopped working after 3 months. They said to set it to Panasonic but they want me to prepay shipping both ways, no thanks. A month ago another handset developed a permanent "low charge" reading on the batteries, even though they show fully charged when I put them in the other handsets. So that is 2 down, 2 to go.
I am a bit bummed by the quality. Before I bought this set I read a lot of reviews that pointed to the Panasonics as the best sets to get. Maybe a newer set would be better? No one has a good deal on them though.
I've commented on this Panasonic unit before. It's quite good with some interesting features. Price is reasonable, too, though by buying from an Internet store (not a major retailer like Staples), you might be able to avoid the sales tax. While Panasonic is better than Uniden or V-Tech, I have to agree with johnnylately that answering machines these days are not built for durability. If you can get two years out of one then that is a plus. Guess this is just a sad commentary on American consumerism, everything is too complicated and expensive to fix, so just throw it out and get something else?!?
"American consumerism" perhaps, but you can bet your sweet ass that these are made in Mexico, China, Malaysia or somewhere else they ain't paid beans. My toaster was made in America about 1975 and still makes amazingly wonderful toast. At one point in my life I bought a couple Cuisinarts and other (expensive, foreign-made) brands that all failed not far from their warranty date. AND they were much more expensive than buying this old toaster at Goodwill.
Like pigs to a slaughter, American citizens have been well trained to like new, shiny things with pretty designs and garbage components. Manufacturers aren't required to take their electro-waste back, so they design them to be disposable - too expensive or impractical to repair. Landfills and barges destined to children's playgrounds in some third world country are employed to obscure the damage while we putter around at Christmas mortgaging our future to purchase sentimental drivel to make sure our relatives love us.
#6 sounds like he didn't get what he wanted this year and lives in a house that time forgot
warm deal but good product, try buying a coupon of eaby or somewhwere..
Screw the prepaid Visa, more thumbplum burp with your credit. I'm sure Benihana "forgot" on purpose.
Isn't what this site is for? to help others about making some purchasing/decisions?
I recently purchased the Panasonic KX-TG1061, which is essentially identical to the posted model, except that my base unit has a corded handset. I have three Panasonic DECT 6.0 cordless remote phones (identical to those being offered) running from the base. My set replaced my 21 year old primary phone (Panasonic KX-F150)and a host of non Panasonic cordless units.
My findings: The new Panasonic is quite chinzy, with far lesser voice quality. I cannot use one of my cordles remotes despite it being about 75' from the base set...apparently too much "material stuff" in between or other electrical interference. I thought the DECT 6.0 was to be an improvement in lesser interference, better voice quality, and better signal strength to slave cordless units...so far, it has failed in all regards. The heft of all the new Panasonic stuff is amazingly light - like air impregnated heavy duty styrofoam.
I will continue to use the new DECT 6.0 system for a bit longer, but will likely switch back to my decades old Panasonic unit.
btw, # 6, nice post...I agree with you 100%. We're being led down the consumer path...smiling as we go...wholly blissful with the shoddy goods being offered, and completely lacking in the true cost (embodied energy) of these same crappy goods. Just try to buy a quality toaster, waffle maker, or washing machine..bacon ANY cost.
