Might as well eat a few table spoons full sugar as a bowl of white rice. Stick with unbleached rice.

^ A lot of white rice is enriched, and even if it weren't it still digests slower than sucrose so it is less harmful either way.

Sure, if I "enrich" a $20 Coldstone ice cremation with 20 vitamins and supplements it'll be better for me than without. I hardly think that a good argument for eating it as a regular part of my diet. And basic white rice is treated by your body the same way as sugar, and the digestion process begins at the same point in your small intestine as with any refined carbohydrate. My point was that many people eat white rice and think it's a healthy choice, many even think of it as a safe diet food and consume large quantities of it regularly and wonder why they keep gaining weight. White rice and diabetes do not mix well for good reason. Studies even show that it increases your risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

Yes, it's great to eat ONLY healthy foods... yet very boring.

Basic enriched white rice is treated more similarly to whole brown rice than to refined sugar. First, the most significant nutrients lost are put back. Second it is digested more slowly causing less of a blood sugar spike and less of a demand on the body for insulin production, especially if that rice is in a sauce with a fair amount of fat in it... which is a good thing since a healthy diet requires a certain % of fat in it too. Move the fat from the meat to the carbs in a meal.

It's seldom the case that people gain weight because of white rice in their diet. More often it's their beverage, their dessert, water gain from excessive sodium, snacks, and plain old inactivity.

Further, switching to whole brown rice doesn't decrease the calories. A cup of cooked rice has around 210 calories, some a little more and some a little less but the difference is a small % of daily calorie allowance to maintain a healthy weight.

A healthy diet (for a reasonably active adult female, increase carb calories for a male) should have at least that many carb calories pe

You just want us to get married so you'll have an excuse to throw your crappy white rice away.

Not bad at all for the price. But! If you look at the retail price at 80 there's not much of a savings I recommend any of you to buy this if you need one like tomorrow. Panasonic make pretty good stuff. I got one last year for $60 buck also. Is sitting in my basement, Waiting for my Zojirushi (Elephant Brand) to die. Its been 14years already and counting. I payed 180 14 years ago.. This is what I payed last year for the Panasonic @ 60.. these price drop all the time, with better technology out.. Personally. Not much of a deal, But!. I like the story, Hopefully the marriage with a happy ending..
