This is a great price and a great TV. I paid $739 from Amazon on 10/28. This unit was highly rated by Consumer Reports, and I can vouch for that (great picture).

I can vouch for #1. The X line is good stuff. I have the 42" version.

Amazon, in their traditional form, have raised the price to $699...2 hours ago it was $669. They must of realized when everyone started buying this tv at that price, "hey, let's raise the price and see what happens".morons !

There are 6 TV's rated higher than this one in Consumer Reports, 5 lower. Of concern is audio quality, which you can remedy w/ a sound system purchase. In general though, Samsung and Panasonic plasmas are amazing. I have a 42" plasma from panasonic, and I may get this larger one for above the fireplace.

Costco has the X14 variant for $699. Almost the same with the exception of 1 less HDMI and lower contrast. But the X14 has a VGA D-sub input and 2-year standard warranty plus 90 day return. From what I hear the X14 has better color calibration from the factory.

For those of you that own the X1 or X14, I am thinking about get one. Which screen size should I get? The 42" seems to be the right size for me but I think the 50" is a better deal with the higher resolution. So, does the 1024x768 vs 1366x768 matter?

I am planning to mount it on a Boltz steel HDTV cart.

The resolution makes no difference. I can tell you from experience a 42" gets small fast. Get the 50". The X1 is a better TV. The Costco/Walmart versions aren't as good. Most credit cards double the warranty so you get 2 years anyway.

Looks like it is now from some 3rd party retailer with $100+ shipping.
