Great deal on a pretty awesome TV. These just keep coming down. I spent $1,150 on last year's model right about this exact time last year, that was the lowest price I'd seen the TV for then.
#1: So how many of them should I buy?
sincerely,
toddsucks
#2 depends on how much room you have in your tent. Plasma is great!
I have this TV, it has been great, I bought two on black Friday last year for $899.00, watch out for burn-in on your plasma TV...
Plasmas are so great that many companies are getting out of making them. If you must have a plasma this is a better one.
http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=PNTCP50G10. The G10 series is the shite..
I have the 42" version of this and it is an awesome television. The only gripe I could think of is that it lacks a headphone jack, but most people have home theatre systems hooked up to their plasmas so that shouldn't really be an issue. Eventually I'll look into getting some decent surround sound, but to tell you the truth the stcok speakers are actually very decent. I have no regrets on this television; amazing set for the price.
#5 I like the LAN port on your unit (no pun intended there), I also like the PC input. But with a viewing distance of 10" in my living room, no need for 1080p. When satellite providers start broadcasting at 1080p without hellish compression ratios, I may reconsider.

Yes, that tv that's $500 more expensive is a nicer product. That's for that brilliant input #5. In fact, in the $2,000 price range, I'd bet you could find an even better one. I'm starting to wonder if there's a connection of some kind here.
#5, if Plasmas are so great, why many companies are stop making them? I have to agree though, this is a good set at the price. But ppl now days prefer LCD over plasma, even given plasmas at a lower price, there must be some reasons to it?
Bring it on, the never ending plasma vs LCD rage.
A 10" room still constitutes 10" more
Viewing distance of 10-inches...LOL! Good catch. That whole metric system is throwing me off...
Bring it on, the never ending plasma vs LCD rage.
It's because plasma has earned a bad rep for having a far shorter life while being an energy hog in comparison to LCD TVs.
Do the new plasma TVs actually have a significantly shorter lifespan?
#14 - Plasma has a half life and years ago, when they were first out, a person could notice a difference in picture quality or brightness after as soon as 7 years. Plasma technology has come a long way since then and I'd wager that you'll be done with the TV long before it's done producing an acceptable picture.
One reason LCDs sell more is because in very well lit showrooms they look brighter and more vivid. Get those LCDs in a controlled light room and they don't compare to a Panny plasma.
I agree plasma got a bad rep in the beginning that it hasn't been able to overcome. I myself bought into it in the beginning and bought an LCD first, it was pathetic and unwatchable, it hard workerthe next day. Only when there were no other choices did I try plasma because of all the bad things I'd heard, none of which turned out to be true. My Panny plasma BLOWS the Sharp LCD I tried first AWAY in every way possible.
#16, Panny makes the best plasmas, period. While Sharp is now no where near the best LCDs. Maybe you should give a shot at Sony or Samsung LCDs, then you'll have a more fair comparison?

That's a good price for a 50". I am debating between this and the TC-P50S1 50" 1080p Panasonic Plasma for $1138.
I had a top-of-the-line Sony CRT HDTV before the plasma, it lasted less than 6 months. I knew full well Sony's reliability issues before buying the TV, I've worked on electronics for many years, but the PQ was just so good, at least for awhile until all the CRT drawbacks started to drive me nuts. I'd NEVER touch a Sony TV again.
