50" and only 720P?! what a waste!
More clueless 1080p trolls. Unless you're going to sit with your face against the screen and watch only blu-rays or use it for a PC it makes no difference wheather it's 720p or 1080p.
anyone had experience watching a 50" at 720p? can you really tell it's not as good as 1080?
#3 Not really an answer to your question, but I was an early adopter and picked up a 50" Panny @720p in 2006 for $2500. Kind of depressed to see 720p prices these days ($810--at Sears, no less!--really hurts). Anyway, I'm sure I'm a cheap bastard but since I'm not paying for Blu-ray movies, and there isn't broadcast 1080p, I am 100% satisfied with my 720p machine. True, a 1080p panel would upconvert what I'm watching (DishHD), but I highly suspect that with a 720p or 1080i signal, the difference would be very tough to see.
I bought this TV and I really like it. I think it's a good compromise between features and price. Being "only" 720P isn't a problem for me since I don't have a blu-ray player or anything else that's 1080P as a source, and the TV uses less power compared to other 1080P plasma sets. The only other 1080P sources I can think of are Dish Network's VOD service and some other random video download services.
The two main drawbacks were limited picture adjustment and low brightness. That being said, I got the picture adjusted to my liking and our TV room has blinds, so the lower brightness doesn't bother us. Excellent picture quality and an excellent value over all.
I'm going to disagree with # 5 in that I think the TV is very bright. I have it in my bedroom and can't fall asleep because it's to bright. Great picture and better sound than my Sharp 52". Also, I set this up next to my Sharp 1080P and I liked the Panny better when watching hi Def DirecTV. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!!
This tv looks great, I've looked at it at 2 sears locations. Side by side against the Samsung 50 720p and it is hands down better. I went to 2 locations just to see if the Samsung was a bad egg at the first location and nobody would help me. Not the case, the samsung has a rippling effect on text and the Panny looks great. I may pull the trigger on this one.
Just bought it online for in store pickup. This is a nice looking 720p.

Coming up 899.99 now.
Called Sears to ask if they'd honor their earlier price... Answer is NO! Guess I'll keep shopping!
#9 Thanks that's awesome...will help me settle tons of barroom bets.
#10 and #11, you have to use the Sears card to get 10% off making it $810.
Old technology, heavy and eats twice power than LCD. No deal...
