Please stop reminding me I paid $700 more a few months ago for this thing. Think of how many bottles of Mad Dog I could have bought with which to woo #2's sister....
is this the one at walmart on BF?
You can get a 50" for this price in a burp week. This is a rip.
Great price on an excellent tv.
Now if they just drop another 50% I might be able to afford one.
Maybe next year
I know everyone says this is excellent but I saw it at CC last week and did not think it looked as good as the LCDs around it. We went there ready to buy it and it was $200 less than we were planning to pay. My wife could see a difference too and did not want to get it. Maybe it was up or down-comverting the signal and not native 720p.
so is the tv any good #1?
I have the previous year's model, "the 50U" series. Outstanding picture quality. I would never judge it by a local retailer's demo model. They never have the settings right. Out of the box, Panasonic sends this with all the settings cranked way, way up for some reason. Once properly adjusted, it's stunning. Can't think of a better word. I've never, ever seen an LCD that can hold a candle to it for picture quality. Now, if you want it as a gaming monitor, get something else, like LCD or DLP.
Differences between last year's 50U series and this year's 60U? Two HDMI inputs now on the 60U vs. 1, and a larger color pallette.
i have this tv and love it. works great with my xbox 360 and for watching videos off my pc.
I just got this one a few weeks ago from Frys for $1300 shipped. Awesome TV! Once you properly adjust the setting, the picture looks great. Just google 'TH-42PX60U settings' and there will be a website somewhere in there that did an indepth review of this model. Also they include the settings they changed to match the perfect picture/color combo.
I did the same deal as #10. Once the settings were set, this TV is absolutely breathtaking when viewing the HD channels on cable. Wow. I found myself watching the Discovery HD channel for hours...
Bes.tbuysux , whats up? I cancelled my order coz Fry's was jerking me around. I am waiting now for them to come down to sub $1k for black friday or this year's xmas sale.

This post is for a link to a review of this set, and its optimal settings. The reviewer was pretty amazed:

do u guys suggest a plasma over a lcd screen?
Hey Bean ... You probably will be able to grab it somewhere for 1k on Black Friday. I just couldnt wait anymore to get one! If they ended up putting me on the backorder list as well I would have probably just cancelled by now and waited until Black Friday.
Actually ... One of those newer Samsung LCD's look really good. Basically the picture is just as good as a plasma now, just the are a bit more expensive. Also, if you are going to be putting the TV into a room with some large windows I would recommend going LCD.
plasmas have better pictures than LCD's. Plain and simple. The only reason to buy a LCD is if you live in high altitude, like 7000' and above, or if you want the higher resolution 1080p that LCD offers. That's it.
And if you don't like seeing reflections from windows in your TV... Then that's it.
You have to pay a bit more to get the same quality on a lcd. Lcd is brighter but the color and viewing angle is much better on plasmas. Higher resolution is nice but only worth while if you connect a pc to your tv. For regular tv viewing, you can beat a plasma.
LCDs also use less power and don't get as hot as plasmas. So get this if you need an extra heater for the winter.
Why would anyone buy an HDTV if not primarily for its picture quality? Uses more/less power? Doesn't get as hot? If you're in the market for an HDTV of any appreciable size, the power considerations are far outweighed by the price. Go for the quality. Get the plasma. Nothing beats this set for price point and quality right now.
