Have they fixed the "Burn In" on the Panny Plasmas yet?
My neighbors 50" is only a year old(from Costco) & has burn in where the black bars appear on non-hd channels.

#3- Take it back b/c it's from Costco. Also, I've never heard of black burn in.

#4, the area where there is picture burns in (consumes) more than the area where the black bars appear. So you see a ghost line there. The channel logo is another problem area.

Besides the burn in problem, Plasmas are heavier and consume more electricity. However, they do have a better picture than LCDs.

I still prefer an LCD though.

This is the best TV you can get for $1000, without question.

The "burn-in" thing is total myth, as is the power consumption (the difference in normal viewing is almost completely negligible).

But if paying more for inferior quality is your thing, Bestbuy will be happy to sell you an LCD.

I have the 85U version of this TV. By far one of the best sets I have ever owned. Got a sony lcd and returned it twice. Sony sucks anyway.

With plasma, you need to watch 4x3 in stretch mode if you watch a lot of of it or at least keep the side bars on bright gray, annoying and isn't as good as stretch but it's better than black. I've watched so much 4x3 on just it doesn't bother me at all. 2.35:1 movies should be zoomed too. The price you have to pay for the superior PQ of plasma.

All you people and power consumption need to give it a rest. At my picture settings with a 50" plasma, it sucks about 1 1/4 amps, 150 watts.

#6, if you have never seen burned-in plasma then of course you will believe it's a myth. I have seen it first hand.

if you use the TV properly, it should not give you any burn in issue. most people crank the brightness and contrast way too high, and that is why they have burn in issue.

it's like people wonder when they have spyware or virus on their PC, when all they ever do is surf porn on the internet all day.

Consumer Reports lists it as a best buy, though I'm not entirely sure why..bacon doesn't rate above 'very good' in ANY category. Contrast ratio seems great, and everything I read on Plasmas says that most manufacturers have eliminated burn-in.

#12: Are you saying the Internet should be used for something other than looking at porn? What the burp? That's unamerican.

#12: Yep. If you have burn-in, it's your fault, not the TV's.

I have the Pani 50" PZ750. I head it for over a year with absolutely no problems, watch HD and non HD channels with no stretchering. Pani was really good with improving this new line of plasmas against the burn-in. Even though it was not necessary, I still did the break in on it by playing some constant color images for a few hours of its first life. Pani's have a great picture resolution and colors in comparison to LCD's and you still can't compare the price. Pani is also by far the biggest leader in the industry of Plasmas. As far the weight goes, I am sure you are not planing on having your girlfriend hold it for you wile you watch the National Championship Game. Just my two cents. Laughing

How much better is the TH-46PZ85U, I've read that they both use the 11th generation panny tube, according to BB's specs, the z85 has 30,000:1 contrast ratio and accepts PC input (I assume this is a std DB15 connector they are talking about and not DVI)... evidently the z85 does not have sound leveling and the z80 does?! Otherwise they seem identical...

I have a 42" 720 panny that I bought at BB for $750 two months ago... think I'm going to sell that for $700 to a friend and buy this one... the best price I can get on the z85 is $1300 at the egg... I know I would rather go pick up something like this even with newegg's stellar (and free) shipping... 30% more for barely noticeable contrast boost (I think the 42" 720 w/15,000:1 looks great already) and a vga port I'll never use (I run hdmi from the htpc).
