If you are planning on hooking it to a PC, go with 1080p
Nobody is fine with 720p! Nikko back me up here.
#16, what kind of retard are you. I was sarcastic, moron! Burn-in is not a completely resolved issue they were just able reduce the effect by increasing the time for burn in from few minutes to a few hours (10 hours or so). And it doesn't mean that you won't have that ghosting effect when you display a still image. The ghosting image will stay permanent if the still image stays for more than the specification it will be temporary effect if displayed for lesser time.
"One technique used is motion adaptive anti burn in technology, which focuses on moving the on-screen image ever so slightly. The goal is to avoid detection by the human eye, but still move the image enough to cause color changes in the pixels. A second improvement by some manufacturers is improvement in the phosphor gas itself in order to make it more resistant. The green phosphor is the most important in this process."
If the color in the surrounding pixels doesn't change in that shifting area then that technique has no effect in avoiding burn-in.
Instead of listening to Wand...who only guesses at such things, and sees things on the internet...listen to an owner:
I have 3 of the last gen of Panny plasmas (42pz700u) before this. No burn in. Not on the one in my living room for TV, not the one in the den for the PS3/Xbox360, and not any on the one in my office connected to the PC.
Is there image retention? Yes, and it's temporary. The worst it ever had was after a still image was paused for 5 hours (my brother disabled my screen saver). The IR washed out after a little over 20 minutes of moving images. Nothing left.
That was the slightly older ones, no doubt these are even better. And the picture can't be beat. There's no ghosting effect notable from pixel shift.
Wand, just stfu and go back to using whatever mommy and daddy bought you.
Hey #24, what do you do for living? What kind of office is that which uses a 42" plasma TV as a PC monitor. And you live with your brother in your momma's basement, don't you have your own house?
You better keep your ass shut and don't speak out of your ass. burp moron!
Look for the models that end with '85' and not '80'
For example, you're better off with the model that #5 referred to, the TH46PZ85U.

says not available in my area for delivery.
awe... bacon you knew it's ben's bacon filter and you're still acting like retard/by-product of incest.
Here's something from an 80 series owner. I played a Super Nintendo game for about an hour one night with the contrast and brightness low, it took 3 days of fairly heavy TV watching for all the IR to go away. And yes, the TV was broken-in properly for 200 hours long before the game was played.
Don't believe that burn-in is a thing of the past crap. If you're careful with a plasma then it shouldn't be a problem. You can't do whatever you want with them though.
This is a steal for now, but it is being replaced by a newer model more than likely for the low price.
That's funny. I've played Wii virtual console games for hours upon hours on my even older 60-series Panny and haven't noticed anything retain longer than about 30 minutes. Sounds like bullbacon to me.
Picked one up tonight at Sears. They had it on "sale" for $1199, matched the BB price plus 10% of the difference. Then they took another 10% off for any Panny over 40" on their 3-day sale. Total of $881. Not a bad deal after all that.
Aww...poor Wand, trying to insult me...and failing, as per usual.
Wow, I'm sorry, I didn't know family members weren't allowed in one's house? My brother came over to use my computer as his wasn't working, and he messed around with the settings. Not surprising. Though to be fair, you're right.bacon's not quite a house, it's a townhouse. That's how it is in downtown areas. Try leaving your inbred backwater you live in sometime, and find out.
As for my living, I work for a media outlet in Boston. Having the TV connected to the PC helps when I want to see what edited video will look like on a screen larger than my monitor at 22".
As to speaking out of my ass...I'm the only one who provided facts and knowledge on the product. You're obviously clueless beyond bs you read on the internet. Figures, coming from a guy who has Richard Simmons as an avatar.
#32 newer game systems were designed with burn-in in mind, they knew plasmas had issues and designed game systems accordingly. It definitely isn't crap, it was there for 3 days.

These were old Super Nintendo and NES games. The wii doesn't do anything special to display them.
You don't see the anti-IR software of a plasma TV running in the background either, that doesn't mean it isn't there.
I've always praised the Panny plasmas on here, read the first post. Why then would I say something negative about them if it wasn't true? That makes no sense.
Here are the details of what happened: Played Zelda for about an hour on a 50" TV, contrast/brightness both below half, color way below half in cinema mode. I then watched TV for a couple of hours because the IR was so bad. I couldn't see anything from the normal viewing distance of 11', if I got 6' or so away I could see the magic meter no matter what was on the screen. If the TV was on an input with no signal, I could see the MM and other info boxes from the 11' viewing distance. The next day the same thing. The next 2 days I could see the MM from the normal viewing distance if the TV was on an input with no signal. The 4th day it was finally all gone. That was after only 1 hour. I shudder to think what it would be like after 5 or 10 hours.
Plasmas may be less prone to burn-in than old models but if you think they are immune these days, you're wrong.
How low will they go?
