Mini DV stores better, has better image quality and is easier to edit and broad software support with no potential wait to finalize the disc.

DVD format has the advantage of being able to instantly view in a DVD player or computer and for quick access (no rewinding/fast forwarding)

    these are retarded
recording in mpeg2 on the fly onto a DVD = crap quality
HDD recording in mpeg4 is the way to go

#6, it does not use full sized DVD media. It takes the 8cm variety.

I still prefer the DV cams MUCh better quality in my opinion. No compression means better quality. these dvds only hold on average 20 - 30 mins anyways.

I dont care what anybody says. I filled up lik 8 - 10 dv tapes on one vacation. thats 8 - 10 hours. Im sure it would have filled the drive and no way to dump drive.
Then what happens when the drive get fragmented? What happens if the Drive dies as all HDD's will do.

Stick with a known working system. At least the only thing you need to worry about tapes is if you have enough and that you try to use the same brand.

HD editing is a problem for most pc's. A good question for the DVD, is how long will the data last? No one knows. Good thing about tape, it SHOULD last, as long as you have a player that works.....

Sounds like the consensus is MiniDV. I am looking for a digital camcorder. Which brand/model has a better low light shooting and digital still?

I have a JVC GRD model, they come in many versions. I like it though. But, try to look for one that you can easily get the tape out of. This one has a 2 part door that opens up starting on the bottom. Therefore if you have a tripod on, you have to take off the tripod mount just to get the door open.
