My friend has this exact model. It's got a really nice picture. Its reviewed as having bad glare sometimes, but I saw no problems in the room that had many windows.
The problem with a Plasma TV is that it consumes a lot of power and it is very heavy. The picture is pretty good otherwise.
Power consumption is a thing of the past. This has the NeoPDP panel that uses 50% less power than previous models.
A properly calibrated Panasonic plasma uses about the same amount of power as a comperable size standard LCD.
#2. Plasmas aren't "very heavy". Are they heavier than a comparable LCD? Yes. I picked up a 50 inch plasma, brought it home, got it in the house, assembled it on it's base and put it on the stand by myself and I am of average size and strength.
Regardless, this is a good price on a nice TV. I have the same TV except the S1 instead of the S2.
I have a 58" Panasonic Plasma that draws 730 Watts, an 8000 series Samsung Plasma 63" 500 Watts.
The Samsung 63" is MUCH lighter then the Panasonic 58".
Love my Panasonic Viera. If you live in an earthquake zone, I would worry about the weight difference because if it falls on you, you might not survive!
#5 have you tested actual power consumption? What they are rated and what they actually use are two far different things.
Coupon expired, price back up to $899. Google other forums to see how to do EPP direct from Panasonic for a little less than the deal here.
Consumer Reports indicates the yearly energy costs for this model as $30-50. The 58" wasn't that much more.
