So should I assume this thing will generate some heat?
I dont have the same exact drive but under loads my ssd runs about 40deg C and non SSD 36 (now it spins less as its configured as 2nd drive)
I do have a slightly higher case ambient though. Good price for this one you should jump on it. Would be excellent in a laptop with room to spare.

Hmm, that's odd. These aren't supposed to generate much heat at all unless you're doing continuous writes or weaponized it.
Either way, they're a whole lot faster and generally use less power too. Do make sure to have enough ram to disable the swapfile though.
The temperature it reports depends on where the temperature sensor is. With some modern controllers you'll have a sensor in the IC itself instead of separate on the PCB so while the product may or may not produce less heat, the IC is warmer than surrounding air or the avg. temp of the PCB.
"commoncents" will tell you #1's comment is based upon the drives name, PYRO, not upon the drives operating temperature
