Abes of Maine has the Pentax K100D Digital SLR Body for $460 - $100 rebate [Exp 2/7/08] = $360 with free shipping. This SLR features a CCD-shift image stabilization system, which allows you to take sharper photos at slower shutter speeds. [Review : BizRate]

Buy canon, and you will not be able to focus properly. LOL
Canon SUCKS! Nikon and Pentax rule! XT is POS! k100d super is just SUPERB! XT is actually the worst entry-level DSLR.

JVance, go get the XT and everybody will laugh at your plastic toy. If you want something real from canon, get at least 40D. Otherwise, get Nikon or Pentax.

Alan, Pentax is going off well with K10d and K100d. K10D won Japanese Camera Grandprix prize. You are just not interested.

You can always tell when someone hasn't a clue....

I've owned two Pentax bodies, and shot with many others including the real, heavy metal film cameras. Not one of them metered with the same results. I had to shoot test cards and mark them to know which was which.

I've owned three Nikons, all three failed electronically -- not to mention my buddy who had green fungus growing on the coatings inside all of his poorly sealed but prized and pricey Nikkor lenses.

I've hated Canons since I first laid my hands on the the damn shutter-preferred auto AE1. However, the Canons have all worked OK, lasted a while, and produced good, consistent results. I now own Canons.

If you want an inexpensive "system" dSLR with access to the full line of both amateur and pro lenses, flashes and accessories, get the XT (not the XTi).

Interesting. I guess if you're not afraid of 3rd party lenses, it'd be nice deal. The link took me to the "super" camera. I don't know the differences.

I'd like one, but I have to save up for buying gifts for others.

No clue? LOL. What consistency? I've owned 20d and 5d, but they often failed to focus correctly. Camera beeped, LCD picture seemed OK, but when checked on monitor, voila, wrong focus. The symtom is especially pronounced with fast lenses. It's widely known between Canon shooters. I couldn't rely on such cameras. My Nikon D80 and D200 never gave me wrong focus. My Pentax K10D was a bit slow in focusing, but focus was always right.

Fungus grow in poor storage condition. It's not lenses' fault. Who has no clue? Try storing your L lenses, if you have ANY, in your basement.

Don't we live in Digital era? Who cares film camera? LOL

Haven't you heard about Canon's EOS 1D MKIII AF issue?

Don't buy from Abe's!!! They push sell all kinds of stuff, because you have to call them when there's a "problem" with your order online. Then you get hi-pressure sales guys and a bunch of delays getting them to ship.

    Screw them.

The vendor site says it is a K100D Super, so the rebate
    would apply.

If you have access to the Pentax lenses, you're in good
shape, and might as well get this instead of the
slightly more expensive camera + 18-55 lense (such as
    offered by Circuit City).

pangea - It wasn't the camera causing focus issues. It was because you couldn't hold the camera still with your cracked out twitches. Drugs are bad.

expresscameras.com has it for $279 with free shipping. Some reviews put this in the same company as the XTi. I've always had great luck with Pentax and Canon. My first SLR was a K1000 until someone swiped it out of my backpack on a train in Russia.

Can this thing use other branded lenses? WOuldn't be too bad if I could get a cheap zoom lens with it. But I can't believe they wouldn't include the standard cheapo lenses.

Hey Drum...is expresscameras.com a reputable site? resellerratings.com has it at .91 out of 10!!! less than 1....I dont know if I would buy the Pentax from there even if it was just $280
