      wasnt pentax just a crappy no name brand a few years ago? how did they start selling $250 cameras?

      Pentax was one of Japan's great camera manufacturers - they have SLRs and lenses going back 30+ years. They haven't done as well in the digital age and have been trying to peddle discount wares in Canon's shadow.

      At least they aren't dead like Minolta.
