If you look at my review for the Samsung, I think I would recommend this one if you like to watch a lot of movies because Plasma TVs have much better black from what I have seen. If you prefer sports and TV shows, I would recommend the Samsung because it is such a beautiful TV.

Seems like a low price for a 42". LCDs are higher even at $1400

#2, they always have this TV at this price. They've even had it for $1K w/free shipping. I've had one of these, picture is very good.

If you plan on using PC as one of sources, 1024*768 is better than 1366*768. That's because almost none of video cards supports 1366*768 resolution, while 1024*768 is a standard.

Just watch out for the black screen of death with these things. I have one of these sets, and it stopped working after about 6 months. Tv just shuts itself off after about 10 minutes, and cannot be turned back on until you unplug it then plug it back in.

I've got a warranty call in, the replacement part has been on backorder for 3 weeks. So I'm definitely not the only one with this problem.

      Walmart.com has a 32" LCD for under 600.

I agree with bestbuy sucks, since all the technology is getting more advance (DVD players, gaming consoles) everyone needs to transition to HDTV, it will look soooo much better when playing games, or watching tv.

If you decide to purchase this item, advise buying an extended warranty. I got mine at MACK (3 yrs. FULL coverage) for $120.00.
So my final delivered price for this plasma was $1119.00 (free shipping when I got mine).

Great picture and mine only had 51 hrs. of use recorded.

Wow! 10,000:1 contrast must be like 3d.

I use my 27" 1366x768 LCD HDTV with my PC set to 1280x720 and it looks fine. Not perfect but I've seen worse with SXGA LCD monitors at native res.

Between buying a new computer every 5 years and a new monitor, I'm not too sure I want a HDTV.

don't know about you guys, but even my laptop can output 1360x768 16:9 resolution to my 27" LCD HDTV. 1280x720 makes things blurrier compared to the native res.

If you're looking for something to use primarily as a computer display, this is not a good choice, since you're stuck with a 4:3 resolution on a 16:9 monitor, plus there's the burn in issue, since with computer usage, more than half the time you have static images on the screen.

DON'T BUY IT! Cnet.com gives it a "mediocre" 4.6 out of 10. Check it out on cnet.com.

Beware when buying from Philips Outlet. All items are sold "as is"... it's buried in one of their pages, but it's there. Philips Outlet will use that to force you into a warranty claim for items that aren't functioning "like new" when you get it. The difference is you'll end up having to ship it back to them on your own expense.

I got dinged by this with a 13" TV/VCR combo... hate to think what the shipping cost on this Plasma would be like. So just be forewarned of Philips Outlet's rules. Could be you get lucky....

How does this compare with the Westinghouse 42" for almost the same price. I'm assuming the Westinghouse is better but can someone confirm?

Yep. Wait for Black Friday and try to fight off the crowds for your new large-format flat screen. The wait gives me anxiety...
