Well, how many features can a poor deal have and still be published on BB?
      1. Philips TVs have the worst return rate, which is why they sell so much refurb stuff.
      2. This is a refurb.
      3. Plasma when you should be buying LCD for this screen size.
      4. Uses a rebate which you might never see.
      5. The price isn't at all good, even if this wasn't a refurb.
      I gonna buy me a half-dozen.

I think that's actually $400 instant discount, nowhere does it mention rebates.(notice this is listed as a deal, not rebate)

#1, stating that this size should be LCD is definitely an opinion. If you watch mostly at night, the glow from LCDs is pretty annoying, and I would recommend plasma. Even the best LCDs are too bright for my tastes. Also, find me a name brand 42" LCD for $1100 shipped, refurb or not.

And if something is going to fail it already has on a refurb - and has been fixed. Still, Personally I don't do refurbs.

I would like to share that I bought one of these when it was $1K w/free shipping, kept it for a month, and returned it. The picture was great, but I just decided I wanted an LCD instead. Also my living room walls are basically all windows, so glare was an issue. The excuse I gave was that the remote didn't have dedicated buttons for selecting different sources, and therefore I couldn't program my universal remote to work with it (which is the truth).

My point being, after a 90 second phone conversation, they agreed to take it back and issued me an RMA. They refunded me the entire amount of my purchase ($1092 incl. tax), and didn't even charge me for the return shipping. No restocking fee, nothing. I was very impressed. Moral of the story is, if you buy this and don't like it, you can send it back, and be out nothing.

I think right now, as far as televisions go, for the most moderate sized rooms the 42" plasma reigns supreme as the TV of choice. They boast wonderful image quality, have a compact size, no longer suffer from burn-in dangers, are a 16:9 aspect ratio, and are cheaper than comparatively sized LCD TVs.
