Philips Outlet has the refurbished Philips DVD Player w/ HD Upconversion (DVP5982/37) for $40 + $0 shipping = $40 shipped. This DVD Player can upconvert your DVDs to 1080p and plays DivX files. USB Direct plays photos and music from USB flash drives. [BizRate]

    I had one of these. It was pretty great. Then I scored an original 60gb PS3 for $350. Even greater...

    Would recommend this as a hold off until blu-ray players come down. Does a damn good job interpolating to 1080p. Might have to update firmware to get best results.

    #3 Yes you can play Divx videos from a FAT formatted USB flash or external hard drive.
    #4 Bookmark the site and check back, I had to wait a week or two before mine came available. A posting here usualy runs them dry.

    I would not recommend to get anything from Phillips outlet.
    I still have a not working DVD player from Phillips outlet the moment I received it. Phillips outlet has a very bad service department.

    #6, Mine was messing up, until I downloaded the updated firmware from Phillips. The sound and something else had stopped working. Anywho, worked perfectly afterward.

    Check your local CostCo. They've had the newer DVP5992 on sale for the same price every few weeks.

    I can't get mine to upconvert past 720p and sometimes it doesn't even do that.

    #9, select your model (there are different versions of this player) from the following list:

    http://www.support.philips.com/support/html/index_us_en.html#../~scripts/xsltransformsearch.asp?url=http://www.sms.philips.com/catalogue/list?sid=SMS||type=CONSUMER||locale=us_en||mode=gcs_text||item=dvp5982&xsl=search_result_headers.xsl

    Then Click the "Software and Drivers" link from the upper left side of the page. Download the file. It'll lead you through the process...
