For helpful and courteous customer service, give BB a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
jwahooo
Holyoke,MA
im sure this is a nice unit but omg stay away from toshiba.
their dvd upconversion players rattle like crazy
3 models so far i have seen do that
I have an upconverting Toshiba DVD that I bought as a refurb from Woot for all of $40 and it works fine.
This looks like a good buy to me, though.
If you want one of these, you better hurry. Shows back ordered for web and is only available at one of the six stores in my area....
id rather pay a couple of bucks extra and buy it from costco then if there is ever a problem I can just return it.
is there any player out there that provides more versitility than this player? I have the old dvp 642
#6,
I have this player for about 3 mos now; It's versatile, and plays most things I throw at it. The real caveat is the USB port on the front of it that has drastically cut down on me having to burn to CD or DVD before playing a vid clip. The upscaling works well on some things (Divx), but for some reason I still prefer regular DVD's to play in 480p....they just look better to me. The only complaint I have is the slow disk tray open time (~10secs) and the fact that a few of my weird resolution Divx files will only play the audio. In these cases, it's been really strange resolutions that give it problems. (ie...524x272). I think it's a deal for ~$60 and looks slick with its black front facia.
does it do up converting on component video?
I tried this player, but returned it. The reason why is that it stretches the pictures when it upconverts. Initially, I thought it was some issues with some of my DVDs, but then I read about it and did some testing. It is strange, but it looks like it stretches the side when it upconverts higher than 480P. The result looks like something that is filmed using a really wide angle lens.
#9 were you using HDMI or component output to connect to the tv?
Mines played fine with no stretches. Maybe #9 just didnt setup the settings right. You can select from screen ratio to tv type. Everything is great about this play except for No Opt out(Although there is an coaxial connection)and the dvd loading option. The problem with the loading is that everytime you turn on the dvd player or exit the USB broswer, it tries to read and see if there is a disc in the player. And if there is, it will just start playing the disc automatically. These problems are annoying b/c sometimes i turn on the dvd player to watch from usb but have to wait for the player to finsih reading the tray first. Or if you are swapping usb drives, it will atempt to access the dvd tray again. FF or REW is also not the best when watching divx file. But overall, definitely a worthy player.
Why doesn't someone ask the BB shill what BB says, with it's "courteous" customer service (something the vast majority of BB customers from Bensbargains CANNOT attest to)?
#12 because everyone with a brain knows that the guy was being sarcastic. Everyone knows Best Buy Blows!
I have a few friends of mine who purchased this DVD player and they have no problems, it should play most normal files that people would watch, and not some weird resolution files. Can't complain since most dvd players don't even play DivX and all that good stuff, so this is better than a lot out there!
missed it!!!!
