Note: I have the 5140 and it is great, except the USB port is not compatible with U3.

SanDisk and others make and distribute software to remove U3 from your disc, as well as those to reinstall it. I'm disappointed because I like what U3 promises (even though I don't use it yet) and now I have to remove it from my new 4GB SanDisk Cruzer because the Philips 5140 can't handle it. Grrr.

One other minor nit: I have not yet figured out how to skip to a specific time in a DIVX or XVID file without just fast forwarding until you get there -- and that takes a long time!

Will this play my backup Chinese 1$ dvds? I was on a business trip to Shanghai and picked up over 200 of them. So far only my $50 Target piece of baconnaise dvd player has been able to handle them.

#5 - I can not speak to your situation specifically but both of my Philips DVD players have been able to play any media (various CD-R/RW and DVD+/-R/+RW) brands that I've thrown at them... so your Chinese, um, "backups", quite possibly will play just fine...

#4 If your player is DivX Ultra certified it will recognize chapters that you can specify. Some Philips players have this feature.
