Spend a few more dollars and get the Philips with the USB port so you can hook up a hard drive with all your divx movies on it.

Got the refurbished but it freeze up occationally, need to unplug power to unfreeze. Is this a common problem ?

I recently bought a refurbished Philips DVD player and speakers (packaged as a "micro theater system") and have had the same thing happen. The player is very touchy, and I can seldom get through a movie without at least one brief freeze. A few times, especially with well-used rental discs, the problems have been much more significant and included not just freezing but severe pixelation. (When I've later tried these same discs in another DVD player, though, they've worked fine.)

Despite my annoyance with this performance and my resulting hesitation to ever invest much in a Philips product in the future, I've put up with it because the speakers and subwoofer proved surprisingly good, and I only paid about $45 for the whole system.

Even before spending that meager amount, I did a little reading and saw that someone who bought the same item from Amazon also complained of freezing, so I suspect it's a design flaw.

I'd suggest that anyone who goes for this player immediately try out various types and qualities of discs to see if the results are something they can live with. This looks like a better-quality model than what I've got, so maybe it'd be fine and would prove to be a bargain. But if it's not, then I'd recommend quickly returning it and spending just a bit more for a brand that handles disc imperfections better.
